Geek Explorers 2019

How’s it going Explorers! 2019 is well underway and my adventures are in full swing. Today is a simple update of where I’m at, if you would like something more substantial to scratch that Geek itch then check out my book Convention Adventures available on Amazon now

I’d love to say on January 1st I exploded out of my front door, charged down the street and rocketed off around the world to begin my adventures. Rather than a raging explosion it was more a soft burp followed by me limply lying motionless on the floor. 2019 was under way and already I was falling behind, left scrambling in the dust I began plotting my route back to the front of the life race.

A conversation about fate, chance and living in the moment led me to book my first excursion, a trip to Southampton. In mid January I took a coach down to Southampton for a weekend to see what the city had to offer this Geek Explorer. A lot, in fact, was on offer for a hungry devourer of Pop Culture. A delicious pie at the geek themed Piecaramba! A selection of comic book stores, collectible stockists and tasty food places. Medieval architecture nestles in amongst a modern city partially wrapped in a defensive wall and a ship port with spectacular views.

The Geeky itch was satisfyingly scratched, although my appetite for adventure merely teased, my mouth was watering for more, more, more. This was good, I had been filled with motivation, over the last few weeks I have been concocting a schedule of outings. Here is my current loose plan:

March MCM Birmingham and a trip to Manchester
June Comic Salopia in Shrewsbury and possibly a trip to Plymouth
July Possibly a trip to Suffolk
August Not another Comic Con and visiting Worcester Maize Maze
September Stockholm Comic Con
October MCM Comic Con
November Vienna Comic Con

This is still a work in progress so there could be more additions or changes. I hope to have all my plans locked down by the end of March.

In the mean time I’ve been busy at work on my second Geek Explorers adventure video for the YouTube channel. This second video is a lot closer to what I am aiming for rather than the talking head of the first video. There’s still lots of room for improvement, better selection of B-Roll to cut to, some Cosplay, tighter editing, steadier footage and more of a plan to the adventure. I didn’t shoot anything in Southampton, that is all specially for Book 2. I plan to shoot lots while I’m in Brussels so it will be couple of weeks before the next video. If I have time before I go I will shoot a pre-travel video of what I’m taking.

In the coming weeks I will publish a couple of different quest lists I’ll be using to inform my adventures for 2019.

Thanks for reading Explorers!
